Addon Domains

An addon domain allows you to add another domain to your existing account and direct that domain to a subfolder. This is referred to as an addon or pointed domain; the two terms are equivalent in meaning.

What is a pointed or addon domain?

A pointed domain is simply a way to describe a domain for which content is pulled from a subfolder instead of from the main site\'s own content. For instance, a photographer might have a domain camera.com and wish to set up another domain on their account called photos.com, but have photos.com show different content than the master domain. In that case, photos.com would be set up as an addon domain, pointing to the folder /photos under the main site. Visitors to photos.com would only see that URL in the address bar of their browser when visiting the site - no references would be shown from the main site camera.com, and photos.com would be treated as a completely separate site.

Setting up addon or pointed domains

From the control panel, select the addon domains function. You will be prompted for the addon domain name, the folder to which the domain will be pointed, and a password. The password is for the FTP user created for accessing that folder, should you wish to allow someone other than yourself to maintain that area without having access to your control panel password.

Previously parked domains that are being converted to pointed domains must be removed before the pointing operation is attempted.
