How do I set up an email filter?

From the main control panel dashboard, choose User Level Filtering (to have the filter applied to a single mailbox under the account) or Account Level Filtering (to have the filter applied to all mailboxes under the account).

If using the User Level Filtering option:

Choose Manage Filters next to the mailbox to have the filter created.

Choose Create a new filter

Give the new rule a name (required)

Set the rule parameter and the condition (see below for examples), enter the text in the field below those parameters, and then choose the action (discard is highly recommended).

Add further components to the rule by clisking the + button. To remove additional cases from an existing rule, choose the - button next to the case to be removed.

Save the rule.

If using the Account Level Filtering option:

Choose Create a new filter

Give the new rule a name (required)

Set the rule parameter and the condition (see below for examples), enter the text in the field below those parameters, and then choose the action (discard is highly recommended).

Add further components to the rule by clisking the + button. To remove additional cases from an existing rule, choose the - button next to the case to be removed.

Save the rule.

Examples:

To automatically discard any mail arriving from username@domain.com, choose "From", "Equals" or "Contains" and enter username@domain.com in the last field. Choose the discard option and save the rule.

To automatically discard any mail arriving from a mail server with an IP address of 1.2.3.4, choose "Any header", "Contains", and enter 1.2.3.4 in the last field. Choose the discard option and save the rule. This rule can be expanded to discard any message from any mail server beginning with 1.2.3 by entering 1.2.3. in the last field. This will discard messages from 1.2.3.0 through 1.2.3.255. Note that the trailing dot in 1.2.3. must be entered to avoid matching IP addresses that mail end with this series. Entering 1.2.3 as the condition will match 1.2.3.0 through 1.2.3.255 but also match x.1.2.3, where x is the leading octet of an IP address.

To automatically discard mail arriving with certain terms in the body of the message, choose "Body", "Contains", enter the phrase to look for in the last field, and choose discard. Save the rule. Note that entering overly broad terms to match the body of messages can result in lost mail: filters created for matching the body of a message should be specific enough to cover certain known spam types ("viagra", for instance) or should be specific to a certain type of mailing that cannot be mistaken for other pieces of mail ("xyz company" in a signature, for instance).
